Homemade hazelnut and chocolate spread

Homemade hazelnut and chocolate spread

Because Roxana is the kind of person that would eat chocolate 24/7, she decided to make her own hazelnut and chocolate spread one evening (after being sad about how much a organic version of Nutella costs in the shops). This recipe is super simple and can be prepared by almost anyone with a powerful blender at hand (she used the Vitamix 5200).

Ingredients
  1. 200g organic hazelnuts
  2. 1/2 bar of dark chocolate (50g dark chocolate with 72% cocoa)
  3. 1 tsp vanilla powder
  4. 1/2 tsp sea salt
  5. 1 tsp agave syrup (or more after taste)
Instructions
  1. Start by preheating your oven to 175°.
  2. Spread the hazelnuts in one layer on a sheet of baking paper on a tray and bake them for 10-12 minutes
  3. Take the hazelnuts out of the oven and let them cool for 5 minutes.
  4. Once they're not burning hot any longer, rub them in a kitchen towel (or your hands) to remove as much as the skin as possible (that will make the spread smoother)
  5. Add the hazelnuts and blend them until a buttery texture is obtained - you will have to stop a couple of times to push them hazelnuts down. Remember to start on slow speed and increase gradualy
  6. Once the hazelnuts have a buttery texture (around 10 minutes in the blender) start melting the chocolate and add the melted chocolate and the rest of the ingredients
  7. Blend until all the ingredients have mixed creating the spread
  8. Move the spread to a glass jar and keep it in the fridge for 2-3h
  9. Spread away!
Notes
  1. How to melt the chocolate: boil water in a big pot and have a heat-proof bowl on top of the water pot. Break the chocolate in small pieces and put it in the heat-proof bowl, stir from time to time, until the chocolate is melted (I did it the way described on goodhousekeeping.com)
