Homemade hazelnut and chocolate spread
Because Roxana is the kind of person that would eat chocolate 24/7, she decided to make her own hazelnut and chocolate spread one evening (after being sad about how much a organic version of Nutella costs in the shops). This recipe is super simple and can be prepared by almost anyone with a powerful blender at hand (she used the Vitamix 5200).

Ingredients
- 200g organic hazelnuts
- 1/2 bar of dark chocolate (50g dark chocolate with 72% cocoa)
- 1 tsp vanilla powder
- 1/2 tsp sea salt
- 1 tsp agave syrup (or more after taste)
Instructions
- Start by preheating your oven to 175°.
- Spread the hazelnuts in one layer on a sheet of baking paper on a tray and bake them for 10-12 minutes
- Take the hazelnuts out of the oven and let them cool for 5 minutes.
- Once they're not burning hot any longer, rub them in a kitchen towel (or your hands) to remove as much as the skin as possible (that will make the spread smoother)
- Add the hazelnuts and blend them until a buttery texture is obtained - you will have to stop a couple of times to push them hazelnuts down. Remember to start on slow speed and increase gradualy
- Once the hazelnuts have a buttery texture (around 10 minutes in the blender) start melting the chocolate and add the melted chocolate and the rest of the ingredients
- Blend until all the ingredients have mixed creating the spread
- Move the spread to a glass jar and keep it in the fridge for 2-3h
- Spread away!
Notes
- How to melt the chocolate: boil water in a big pot and have a heat-proof bowl on top of the water pot. Break the chocolate in small pieces and put it in the heat-proof bowl, stir from time to time, until the chocolate is melted (I did it the way described on goodhousekeeping.com)
